 Carmen Cuesta 는 스페인 마드리드 태생으로  
유아시절부터 노래하는 것을 즐겨하며
 자연스럽게 가슴 속에 가수가 될 꿈을 키우기 시작했고 ,14세경에는 스스로 곡을 만드는 수준에 이르렀다고 합니다.. 
그녀의 인생에 결정적인 전환이 된 계기는 1979년 
스탄게츠 밴드 일원으로 스페인에 공연 왔던 척 롭을 만나면서부터이고, 
이후 스페인 생활을 접고 뉴욕으로  활동 무대로 옮겨 
찰떡 조화를 보이는 소문난 잉꼬부부가 탄생하게 됩니다. 
또한 그녀는 그로버 워싱턴 주니어(Grover Washington,Jr), 
마이클 프랭크스(Michael Franks)등의 
백 보컬리스트로 그 실력을 인정받았지요.
